Some Flags have rocky starts just like their countries! The first flag given to General Washington was called "The Grand Union" one with 13 Red and White Stripes and still had the British Union Jack. Two times the Stripes changed, once in 1795 when Vermont and Kentucky were added to the Union the Stripes and Stars went to 15. They were brought back to the original 13 in 1818 when 5 states entered at the same time. They decided just to add stars and leave the original 13 stripes alone.
